House of Delegates

ADA's governance structure defines the role of the Board of Directors as governing the organization and the House of Delegates as governing the dietetics profession. The number of Delegates are assigned to affiliates based on membership. The North Carolina Dietetic Association has one Delegate elected to the represent members in the HOD and to serve on the NCDA Board of Directors. NCDA and NCSHNN Partnership - Free Webinar Series

The NC Dietetic Association and the NC School Health Nutrition Network have partnered to provide a free Webinar series to members. RDs and DTRs can receive 1 hour of CPE credit by participating in the Webinars upon completion of the evaluation survey. CDR recommends that listening to an archived NCDA Webinar be counted as a study group activity according to Professional Development Portfolio guidelines. In order to claim credit for a study group activity, you must discuss the Webinar content with two other professionals.

Relationship between Obesity, Poverty and Hunger
While all segments of the population are affected by obesity, low-income and food insecure people are especially vulnerable due to the additional risk factors associated with poverty, including limited resources, limited access to healthy and affordable foods, and limited opportunities for physical activity. From ADA's House to Yours

Spring 2011 HOD Meeting
Delegate Tracey Bates, MPH,RD,LDN represented NCDA to the ADA House of Delegates April 30-May 1. The topics for discussion were the Identification of Mega Issues, Marketplace Relevance and the proposed Associate Multidisciplinary Membership Category. Outcomes from the meeting and mega issue background materials are below. 

Fall 2010 HOD Meeting
Delegate Tracey Bates, MPH,RD,LDN represented NCDA to the ADA House of Delegates Meeting November 5-6. The two mega issues for discussion were Health Reform - Next Steps and a Proposal to Establish an ADA Multidisciplinary Category. Mega issue background materials and outcomes of the meeting are below. Sincere appreciation to all members who provided input on the mega issues.  

 

Reports to the House of Delegates
Twenty committees and task forces provide updates to the House of Delegates. The ADA President, ADA Treasurer and ADA Foundation also present to the HOD. Reports and other meeting resources for the Fall 2010 HOD meeting are available for review.

Member Input Needed - Possible ADA Name Change
A workgroup has been formed by ADA's Board of Directors to consider a name change for the American Dietetic Association. It goes without saying that there would need to be compelling reasons for ADA to change its name, and the workgroup is seeking member input. Please review the established naming criteria and complete the member input survey.

HOD Update - Nutritional Genomics, Nutrition Informatics, Health Reform and Public Policy and Advocacy
The HOD prioritized gaps related to Nutritional Genomics were identified during the Fall 2008 dialogue session. The top two prioritized gaps are education and research. The list is available for member review and has been shared with ADA organizational units to incorporate into their plan of work and budget for FY2011.

The ADA Board of Directors approved the final report of the Nutrition Informatics Workgroup. A Nutrition Informatics Committee has been established to assist in implementation of the workgroup recommendations and provide future direction for the Association on this key issue for the profession. Keep up with this important issue on ADA's nutrition informatics blog.

The HOD discussed Health Reform during the Fall 2009 meeting. Outcomes of the mega issues discussion are below. HOD recommendations were incorporated into the recently published Public Policy and Advocacy Report. To achieve our goals, we must understand the unprecedented current and future landscape and develop messages, strategies and action plans to secure the dietetics profession in delivering food and nutrition services.

The House of Delegates adopted the Issues Management Process to address member questions, concerns and issues. An Issues Management Committee provides education, oversight and direction to the issues management process.
