A registered dietitian (RD) is a professional food and nutrition expert.  Registered Dietitians separate fact from fad, and translate the latest scientific findings into easy to understand information you can use to enhance your health and well-being.   They are the leading experts on all food and nutrition topics nationwide.

The initials "RD" after a person's name signifies that he or she has completed a minimum of a bachelor's degree granted by an accredited college or university and approved experience program.  Registered Dietitians must successfully pass a national credentialing exam and by complete ongoing continuing professional development.  This makes the profession as a whole well respected and the professional well prepared to function as a food and nutrition expert!

North Carolina requires that Dietitians/Nutritionist practicing in the state be licensed. Only state-licensed dietetic professionals can provide nutrition counseling.
