"Dietary Fat and Dopamine Neurotransmission"
Steve Fordahl, PhD
Lecture Summary: The neurotransmitter dopamine aids in reward-based learning, arousal, and attributing value to salient stimuli like palatable food and drugs of abuse.  Dietary fat has been shown to change some intrinsic properties of dopamine neurons that affect how dopamine neurotransmission is regulated.  This talk will discuss recent laboratory findings on how saturated and unsaturated fat differentially alter the dopamine system in a pre-clinical model of weight gain.

10 am - 11 am
"Food Allergies: When Food Becomes a Four Letter Word"
Raquel Durban MS, RD, CSP, LD/N
Lecture Summary: Food allergy management extends beyond avoidance and substitutions. Treatment plan applicability for management of food allergies also encompasses quality of life, access to appropriate foods, financial burden, nutritional completeness and transition of care.
