Action Alerts:

Support Diversity in Nutrition & Dietetics in Allied Health Professions
The Academy has partnered with the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education to encourage Congress to provide $300 million in funding for minority serving institutions that would support allied health professions programs including nutrition and dietetics.

Stand up for Important Nutrition Issues in the Next Stimulus Package
Tell Congress that access to healthy food and culturally-appropriate, medical nutrition therapy are key to managing diet-related diseases and reducing risk for COVID complications, which is disproportionately experienced by communities of color.

Take Action Today on the Medical Nutrition Therapy Act of 2020
Rates of diet-related chronic disease continue to rise, and many of these conditions are now contributing to poor outcomes for COVID-19 patients. Expanded access to nutrition care is especially important for minority populations that have long faced chronic disease health disparities due to socioeconomic inequalities and reduced access to health care, healthful foods and safe places to be active.  Urge your members of Congress to support the Medical Nutrition Therapy Act of 2020!

Tell USDA to Ensure Kids Have Access to Healthy Meals Throughout School Year 2020-21

Skyrocketing unemployment rates due to the COVID-19 pandemic have left many more families wondering how they will make ends meet, including providing healthful meals to their children. This is particularly concerning for the communities of color who have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and are more likely to experience food insecurity. Take action now!

Tell USDA to Extend COVID Flexibilities to Protect At-Risk Pregnant Moms
During the COVID-19 pandemic the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infant, and Children was able to safely and efficiently operate under a set of USDA issued waivers allowing for certain program flexibilities.  These waivers are set to expire on September 30, along with USDA’s authority to extend them throughout the duration of the pandemic. USDA must act now to allow critical flexibilities such as telehealth services and remote new participant certification.   Take action now!

The Academy shares some tips for success in advocacy.
