"Grocery Delivery Services: The New Normal and Platform for Nutrition Intervention"

Lecture Summary:
Demand for online grocery shopping and delivery services surged during the pandemic and will continue to be relied upon by consumers. This presentation will provide insights from a Registered Dietitian based at a North Carolina company who offers online grocery services and distribution. Insights into the influence a Registered Dietitian can have within this non-traditional role in promoting consumer knowledge and general healthful diets will be discussed. The potential for nutrition intervention expansion addressing food insecurity and fruit and vegetable consumption using these services will also be explored.

Literature from across multiple health professions points to a crisis where current and future health professionals suffer from stress and burnout at an alarming rate, threatening the vitality of the healthcare system. Students and practitioners in nutrition and dietetics are not immune to this challenge and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are ever increasing. This presentation describes how stress affects all aspects of the healthcare system and uses lessons from interprofessional peers on how to chart a path forward in maintaining a healthy nutrition and dietetics workforce.
