Circle Award
The Circle Award is presented annually to an individual or group outside the profession of dietetics who demonstrates outstanding interest, support, and contribution to the profession of dietetics.
Criteria for Selection:

One who has made significant contributions to human welfare through a profession other than that of dietetics.

One who demonstrates good will through notable service in furthering the advancement of the profession of dietetics.
-
One who promotes nutrition in a manner as supported by scientific evidence and sound nutritional facts.
-
One who displays keen interest in improving nutrition for persons of all ages.

Emerging Dietetic Leader Award
Emerging Dietetic Leader Award (EDL)

The EDL Award recognizes the competence and activities of dietitians regardless of their age, who have made distinctive contributions early in their dietetics careers to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. NCAND is allowed to recognize one emerging dietetic leader each year.
Criteria for Selection:

Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; verify and include member number.

Initial practice experience not less than 5 years and not greater than 10 years. Interrupted careers or time periods not in practice, are not to be considered or rationed into the 5‐10 years of professional practice experience.
-
Active participation in the national, state, or district association for at least 5 years.
-
Is a Registered Dietitian, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist or Dietetic Technician, Registered.
-
Not previously selected as an RYDY or RDTY.
-
Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
-
Demonstrated leadership, e.g., in legislation, research, education, management, etc., in the Association, community or employment.

Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award
Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award (ODE)

The purpose of the Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award program is to recognize the teaching, mentoring, and leadership activities of faculty in ACEND‐accredited dietetics education programs. One educator can be selected from each of the four program types in each geographic area (a maximum of four awardees from each of the seven geographic areas for a total of 28).
In addition to publishing the list of outstanding educators in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and NDEPline, each awardee will receive a certificate and congratulatory letter from the Academy President. Awards will be presented at the NDEP area meetings for educators each spring.
Criteria for Selection of Outstanding Educators

Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Faculty with academic or supervised practice appointments in ACEND‐accredited dietetics education programs (Coordinated Program in Dietetics, Dietetic Internship, Didactic Program in Dietetics, Dietetic Technician Program).

Demonstrated innovative teaching skills and techniques.
-
Demonstrated mentoring as documented by letters from students (limit three letters per nominee).
-
Demonstrated leadership; e.g., national, state, or district dietetic association activities, community service, honors received, scientific and professional presentations, publications, employment, etc.

Outstanding Dietetics Student Award
Outstanding Dietetics Student Awards

The purpose of the Outstanding Dietetics Student Award program is to recognize the emerging leadership and achievement of students in ACEND‐accredited dietetics education programs and encourage their participation in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. A student from each type of education program within a state will be selected by each state association (a maximum of four per state).
In addition to publishing the list of outstanding students in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, each awardee will receive a congratulatory letter and certificate signed by the president of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. NCAND is allowed to recognize one student from each type of dietetics education program (Didactic Program in Dietetics, Dietetic Internship, Coordinated Program, and Dietetic Technician Program).
Criteria for Selection of Outstanding Students.

Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Students must be members by January 1st of the year in which they would receive the award. Students must supply their membership number; membership identification numbers will not be provided to a third party (i.e., educators).

Student enrolled in ACEND‐accredited dietetics education program (CP, DI, DPD, DT).

Demonstrated academic achievement as documented by letters from program faculty or preceptor.
-
Demonstrated leadership and professional potential; e.g., honors, student dietetic association activities, community service activities, etc.

Outstanding Dietitian of the Year Award
Outstanding Dietitian of the Year Award

This award is the highest recognition NCAND bestows on one of its members. The ODY award is made annually on the basis of professional achievement and active participation in the association at the national, state, or district level. NCAND is allowed to recognize one Outstanding Dietitian of the Year each year.
Criteria for selection:

Significant contributions to the profession through active participation and service in the past year.
-
Service in an advisory capacity: applicant's work and influence has contributed uniquely to the advancement of the profession or to better health practices, and to the development of others in the profession and the encouragement of advanced study.
-
Demonstrated the spirit of service to others in the field of nutrition/dietetics, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the North Carolina Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
-
Significant contribution to the North Carolina Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics during his/her career.
-
Source of inspiration to other members who have themselves become leaders.
-
A leader for the profession who has created new opportunities for dietitians/nutritionists.
-
Furthered the profession by having made public presentations, published the results of scientific research or consumer information via mass media. Additional explanation of support is welcomed and recommended.

The purpose of the RDTY Award is to recognize the professional contributions of registered dietetic technicians in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy) and to encourage their continued participation in association affairs. Each affiliate is allowed to recognize one dietetic technician each year.
Criteria for Selection:

Active membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Please verify with candidates and include membership number.

Is a Registered Dietetic Technician.

Active participation in national, affiliate, or district association.

Not previously selected for this award.

Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.

The purpose of the RYDY program is to recognize the competence and activities of younger dietitians in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy) and to encourage their continued participation in association affairs. This group will be an additional resource from which the leadership of the Association will develop both at the district, state, and national levels.
Criteria for Selection of RYDY:

Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Age limit as of May 1, 35 years or younger.

Active participation in the national, state, or district association.

Is a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.

Not previously selected as an RYDY.
